Youth Program
Your-Mentor is a knowledge-based youth program that is equipping youth to thrive economically and socially.
Most youth operating within the creative industry are vulnerable, and try hard to survive to make a living with the knowledge they have on the creative side of business.
Our aim is to empower youth to gain knowledge on the money side of business, so that they can have stability when operating within the creative industry.
We are equipping youth with information and resources, that will empower them to succeed as creative industry entrepreneurs. We collaborate with youth entrepreneurs who want to build a career in the creative industry, by creating content that celebrates their work. We also share their lessons on business, entrepreneurship, and artistry to promote peer-to-peer learning.
Our main areas of focus include the following categories: Music, Fashion, Graphics, and Crafts.
Through our platform, youth creatives assume the role of “Mentors” to both their peers and the younger generation of individuals who would also want to build a career out of the artistic talent they have. With us, it’s not about what you must do—but who you want to be.
Knowledge Transfer to Equip Youth
Our goal is to be the go-to-hub for youth creatives (aged 18 – 30) in Kenya and beyond, to gain access to information and resources that are necessary in enabling them to take advantage of the various economic opportunities available in their respective fields of expertise. We believe this would help them become more productive and successful entrepreneurs in society.
We want to uplift the lives of creative industry youth entrepreneurs, by giving them access to information and resources that will help them develop an entrepreneurial mindset.
By working with us, youth creatives gain knowledge and resources on how to strike a balance between executing their creativity and managing their businesses profitably. With us it is not about what youth must do, but who they want to be.
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
Like in many parts of sub-Saharan Africa, a vast number of youths in Kenya are disadvantaged and miss out on economic opportunities available both locally and globally, especially for those who have settled on building their careers in the creative industry. As a result, many of them are at risk of facing poverty and social instability in their lives.
Your-Mentor contributes directly and indirectly to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, with the primary driver behind our work being the eradication of extreme poverty.
We have adopted an inclusive and comprehensive approach to the SDGs, by embracing the discourse on youth empowerment as it relates to poverty. Our activities that are designed to equip youth to thrive economically and socially, are a mechanism for the achievement of SDG Goal 1.
Our work also touches on the achievement of SDG Goal 5 that promotes gender equality, and SDG Goal 8 that promotes decent work and economic growth.
Your-Mentor is equipping youth to thrive economically and socially.
